This 2.1km five star sector drives the expectation all the way towards it, if not for the fearsome nature of the pavé then for the raw exposure of headwinds. Making it the launch pad for attacks to power on towards Hem and the Velodrome in Roubaix.

You may think of the Mallot Vert is dominated by Sagan, Cavendish or Kittel. But if you're a little more mature then it could be Zabel, but there is only one true king of the green. King Kelly.

When it comes to green jerseys Kelly is a god amongst green heroes and his epic rides are well documented. An excellent tolerance of foul weather and relentless raw power made Kelly a force to be feared and no one wanted to take him to the line with them. But there's few green jersey winners that can lay claim to a Grand Tour victory, Kelly has the Vuelta.

The Lion of Flanders is synonamous with bicycle races, crazy fans can be seen waving the bright yellow flag at races across the world and not just in the Northern Classic's. A few riders have had the honour of being nicknamed The Lion of Flanders or its flemish spelling - De Leeuw.

Briek Schotte a prolific one day winner from the 1940s was the first to be tagged with the name, and in recent times Johan Musseuw.

Thor Hushovd has been a leader and a Superdomestique, seen here riding his last Paris-Roubaix, in his red 2014 Norweign National Champions jersey suffering the pain of Carrefour d l'Arbre for the last time in his professional career before retirement.

Thor was well known as a tireless teammate who even while running high in the GC could be seen bringing up his teammates and running bidons through the peloton, such is his strength and endurance.

Domestiques are the backbone of any team, without them team leaders have little chance of winning, they are there to fetch fluid, food and clothing from the team car, chase down or infiltrate breakaways and shield their leader from the wind.

There is a hierarchy within domestiques, the more accomplished are referred to as Super Domestiques, riders who in their own right are capable winners but put themselves on the line for their leader at crucial times during a race. Stannard is a true thoroughbred of a Superdomestique and in recent years it's a role Tony Martin has taken up, here they are both on policing duty at the Tour of Britain.

The retired pairing of 3 time world road race champion Spaniard Oscar Freire and Aussie Robbie McEwen battle it out for the green jersey and stage win at the Dax finish line of the 2006 Tour de France. Freire on this occasion would win the stage but McEwen would go to take his third and final green jersey.

Recent years has seen a wide range of Sprinters come to the fore while some of the old guard in the form of Greipel, Cav, Kristoff turn towards team roles and less sprint train ponies.
